Werner's Wings is proud to announce the release of our latest decal sheet WW Decals 48-15-UH-1D/H Stencils. Obstensively designed for the new Kitty Hawk UH-1D kit they will work with an 1/48th scale Huey.

Each stencil sheet offers the complete stencils to do one UH-1D/H aircraft. Decals are even provided for the various placards and stenciling found on the inside of the crew and passenger doors. Nice!

The stenciling was originally done in yellow with yellow step bars and red turbine warning strips. These markings were later changed to black. Werner's Wings has thoughtfully provide both markings in yellow and black. Additional unit markings and symbols are provided, as well as, numbers in black, white and yellow. The danger arrows (just forward of the tail rotor) are also included in English, Vietnamese, and Korean, so you can customize your Huey model.

The Beechcraft 17 Staggerwing and later D17 was a versatile family of aircraft that ended up serving in for more roles than originally envisioned by Beech. Renowned for its attractive lines and good performance, it was designed to be an executive aircraft. But it soon found a role as a racer, liaison, and a utility aircraft in both military and civilian livery. In the US Army Air Force it was the UC-43, in the US Navy the GB-1 and 2. In addition, it flew with 15 other air f orces.

Roden answered the call of many modelers to release a nice kit of the Staggerwing, finally supplanting the old AMT kit which is still available through Round 2. The AMT kit was a specific post war variant however, and required modification to backdate it. The Roden kit represents the most common D17S variant and while Roden provides different liveries/markings in its multiple releases, there were many more schemes not covered; plus Roden decals can be a challenge.

Thankfully Iliad Design has stepped up and released a set of decals for Beechcraft enthusiasts. This set covers 6 different schemes:

Round 2 Models has released a large 3-sheet decal set to accompany their newly revised and released U.S.S. Excelsior kit from the Star Trek series. Printed by Cartograf, these decals are commendably thin and for the most part, feature little to no carrier film to deal with. They respond quite well to MicroSol, which I used to help them conform to some of the compound curves found on the model.

These sheets actually perform two functions rather than one; first, they provide decals for virtually all of the elaborate paint scheme for this model, eliminating an incredible amount of extremely tedious masking and painting. Second, they provide surface texture in the form of tiny panels. Let me deal with these two aspects separately.

Speed Hunter Graphics is a part of the Reid Air Publications family and that means Jake Melampy whose owner as wells as chief cook and bottle washer. That's a great thing for all of us who love the wonderful A-10 Thunderbolt II. I have had a love affair with this plane since I first saw one fly in an air show here in Cleve. Anything but sleek, it is a workmanlike flying tank whose appearance may be different but it also the last thing you would ever want to see if you are in an armored vehicle on the wrong side and it's the best thing to see if you are looking for close air support.
