Recommendation - Most High

And yet another issue (Aug/Sept 2011) is here and, as it states at the top of their cover page, "Showcasing the very best in Scale Aircraft Modeling". In my opinion, this is most likely the finest collection of some of the finest models built by some of the finest modelers...oh well, I'm sure you're getting the picture by now.

This issues' cover sports the Academy 1/72nd French Navy F-8 Crusader by Francois Regis-Binder, and to say that it's spectacular just doesn't get it!  In addition to the article, there are several pages of 1:1 Crusader detail photos that will be a welcome addition to your research stash.  Also in this issue are the following:

  • B-25J strafer from the 1/72nd Hasegawa (Revell) kit by Jean Baptiste Saillant
  • Spitfire (Tropical) 1/48th scale Tamiya kit wearing Operation Torch markings by Anders Isaksson
  • K1-45 "Dragon Slayer" from the 1/48th Hasegawa kit, including an excellent "how to" description as to how he achieved the exceptionally nice "verigated" paint scheme, by Michel Gruson
  • "Mustang Savy" Part 1 of an out of the box build of the all new Tamiya 1/32nd scale P-51 by the editor, David Parker
  • Airborne - their regular section feature on just what's new in this ever-changing hobby
  • Wingnut Wings 1/32nd LVG C.VI.  The techniques used here are near mind-boggling and the results are nothing short of spectacular.  I personally have yet to succumb to the charms of these beautiful Wingnut Wing products, but every article I see (like this one) just brings me a step closer.  This aircraft was built by Jose Marier Martinez Fernandez.

In conclusion, if you haven't had the pleasure of seeing one of these magazines, you owe it to yourself to check one out.  Like the potato chip people say "Bet you can't read just one"!  Thanks again for the review sample.
