Since the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain is upon us, many companies of interest to the modeling community will be coming out with all sorts of items. The company that this review will encompass is the Kagero Publishing Company. Among their many products are books, magazines, calendars and paintings.

This review is of the new series, “Battle of Britain Part 1”, which covers the Luftwaffe aircraft involved in the Battle. In the beginning of the book is a generalized three page article of the Battle of Britain and information on the Luftwaffe color schemes and how to translate what the color bars painted on the aircraft designate. This is in English text with captions next to each aircraft in English and Polish, explaining the details of each aircraft.

There are a total of 15 profiles on the Bf-109, Bf-110, Do-17, He-111, Ju-87 and the Ju-88, with the RAF being Part 2 of this series. Each picture of a specific aircraft is in awesome color and shows in full detail the camouflage and the markings of the group from which it was flown, along with a small article on the specific airplane. These articles contain just enough necessary information for the modeler’s needs without going into too much additional detail, which can be obtained from other sources.

The big surprise is a beautiful set of decals which cover a mixed batch of 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32 scales of these aircraft and a painting mask for a 1/32 Ju88A-1. These decals are in perfect register, great color and minimal carrier film, although is does not state who made them. Either way they seem to be well done.

I highly recommend this book for the scale modeler who needs just enough information for painting a particular camouflage scheme and for placement of the decals and group markings of these aircraft. This book is certainly for the novice as well as the beginner who just wants enough detail to carry them through accurate completion of a particular subject.

If you are interested in purchasing this book, just be advised that it may be worth it to look around due to the fact that I have seen the price range from $26 to $32.

A big thank you goes out to Kagero Publishing for allowing IPMS and me to review this product.
