Model Art Magazine is a monthly magazine that covers aircraft, armor, ships, and car modeling. Model Art started releasing magazines in 1966 and has evolved from there over the past forty-six years.

In the June issue of Model Art it seems as if they have changed the layout of the magazine. Along with the special feature article there is a separate intro feature article, a special article, and the monthly features.

This issue starts out with an intro feature article. This article is a full detailed build of the Tamiya 1/32 McDonnell Douglas F-4J Phantom II "Black Bunny." This model is just gorgeous. Anything that could be detailed appears to have been. The article includes a multitude of color photos and line drawings of the various details.

The special feature article this month covers aircraft of the Japanese military during World War Two that were capable of reaching speeds over 600 km/h (or 372 mph for the non-metric converting folks). The article consists of thirty-seven pages, several black and white period photos, and a multitude of models showcased in color photos along with tips on how to enhance these models. The models used in this article are the Hasegawa 1/48 Nakajima C6N1 Carrier Reconnaissance Plane, the Sword 1/72 Nakajima C6N1 "Saiun" (Myrt) Model 11, the Hasegawa 1/32 Nakajima Ki84 Type 4, the Hasegawa 1/32 Nakajima KI44-II HEI Shoki, the RS Model 1/72 Ki-61-II Kai Hien, and the Tamiya 1/48 Mitsubishi Ki-46 III Type 100.

The special article covers some of the cars driven by F1 driver Ayrton Senna. Senna was killed in a crash in 1994. The models used in this article are the Fujimi 1/20 Lotus 97 Portugal GP, the 1/8 Mclaren Honda MP4/4 (a model sold along with a magazine by DeAgostini Model Space, priced at $67.99 for 20 shipments), the Fujimi 1/20 Willams Renault FW16 (the car he was driving when he was killed), and a 1/43 diecast Honda MP4/6.

The monthly articles are as follows: IJA/N Airplane Illustrated with a continuing series on the Aichi B7A, Combined Fleet Organization covering the 1/700 Dock landing ship Shezhou Maru, Modeling the JASDF with a continuation featuring paint schemes of JASDF F-15s, and Neo Historic Garage which this month features the Tamiya 1/24 Mazda Savanna RX-7 Cabriolet.

The last and the biggest monthly article is the New Kit Review. The kits this month are the Miniart 1/35 European Tram, Meng 1/35 Char C2 French Super Heavy Tank, and Aoshima 1/350 IJN Heavy Cruiser Maya.

The rest of the magazine consists of future releases of models and model products, book reviews, and hobby shop ads.

Even though Model Art is mainly printed in Japanese, I still find it to be a very valuable resource. For those that are more technologically advanced, there are apps that will translate Japanese to English. I use one of these and it really helps to understand the articles. I recommend Model Art to modelers as another publication that you can pull information from.

I would like to thank Model Art and IPMS/USA for the opportunity to review this magazine.
