Eduard has re-released this kit from 2009 as a ProfiPack of the Roland C.II with markings for four new versions including in the aircraft.

In the box is:

  • 3 x light grey sprues
  • 1 clear sprue
  • 2 x decal sheet
  • 1 mask sheet
  • 2 x photoetch detail set
  • 1 instruction booklet

While you get 3 main sprues, the sprues are extremely well molded with a little flash but great detail. The decals allow you to finish the aircraft in four different versions.

Construction

First is the construction of the interior, which is well detailed. Photoetch helps a lot to make this a very impressive cockpit and rear compartment when complete. I will point out that you need to be careful when installing parts to ensure the fuselage halves joint without a clash.

When assembling the camera I found the PE 5 part was a little large so had to cut it down a little?

I would have like to see more color references for some of the unmarked interior components.

The instrument panel assembly also needed to be modified to ensure a correct fit. I will also point out that before you install the instrument panel it is recommended you fit parts PE37 and B21, as these will prove a real issue if installed as instructed.

Next you join the fuselage halves. Keep checking the fit while ensuring all the interior parts do not get in the way. Now you add the lower wing, which will need some filling due to misalignment.

At this stage I choose to paint the main colors and add the main decals as I selected to build the A scheme with the fish scales. Next I drilled a few holes to allow for easier rigging later, then installed the tail and rudder assemblies.

The landing gear was next on my build list followed by the guns. Before I added these parts I rigged the aircraft using EZ-line and some brass tube for turn buckles. Then I completed the wings and all the exterior details.

Summary

This was a fantastic kit and really fun to build, I highly recommend it.

Thanks go to Eduard for providing this kit to review and IPMS USA for allowing me to review it for them.
