The May issue's Cover article features the new Xuntong Tu-2T in 48th scale. This feature article serves as an excellent resourse for those planning to build the Tu-2T. Author and builder Marco Preto presents an in-depth review of Xuntong's first release. Marco's workmanship and skill are evident in the text and accompanying images. The article is a "must read" for anyone who wishes to build the Tu-2T.

This issue of SAM contains a "Feature Build" article and this particular article features the Wingnut Wings DH-2. Dai Williams does a fantastic job building up the WNW kit, sharing his techniques for shading and achieving a "translucent rib effect".  Being a fan of Wingnut Wings kits, and having one on the workbench at this time, I found Dai's article timely and very useful.

As is the case in each issue of SAM, there are a number of "Compact Build Reviews". In this issue there six CBRs.

  • Charles Whall's first review for SAM features the Italeri 1/48th Ju-87D-5
  • Mike Williams builds the Kinetic 1/48th scale T-45 Goshawk.
  • Sebastijan Videc reviews the Trumpeter 1/72nd scale Su-27UBM2 Flanker C
  • Neil Pinchbeck takes on the Airfix 1/72nd scale Stringbag, the ever popular Swordfish Mk.I
  • Juan Contreras converts the High Planes Models Israeli Nesher S into a Mirage 5P of the Peruvian Air Force.
  • Karl Robinson reviews the 1/72nd scale Revell Ju-88A-4 and also provides a "how to" technique. Karl describes and illustrates how to fill a seam without sanding by using white glue and Mr. Surfacer 500.

To accompany the conversion project by Juan Contreras, the Aviation in Profile article provides a history of the Mirage5P/DP as well as a set of full color, 3 view drawings by the Mirage in various national markings.

SAM is highly recommended for its content, which features high quality "builds" and also for its articles which include some excellent reference information. Thanks to Scale Aircraft Modelling for the opportunity to review the May issue.
