Neil Robinson takes his second go around as interim editor and comes up with a second great issue. While the previous formats have been consistent, this interim issue is a collections of great articles and two aviation in profile and all the expected news on new releases and current in stock materials. There is also a really nice review of the Nuremberg Show Report.

The first article is an excellent upgrade of Revell's 1/72 Halifax built as a 6 group RCAF Halifax B.II Series IA built by Tony O'Toole. Changes include filling in some windows and reconfiguring others along with using a Freightdog set. The results are superb. Bonus real pictures and a history of the plane were included.

Andy Scott builds Revell's wonderful 1/48 Ventura as a Mark II. Alley Cats OOP blistered canopy was used to replicate this mark. Other changes include his method to fill the correct lines and Ultracast wheels were used.

In the middle of the build, there is an excellent Aviation in Profile of the Ventura in its many markings with a fold out of 1/72 scale drawings.

Karl Robinson builds Kinetic's 1/48 A-6A/E Intruder. He titled the article "Fight of the Intruder" and details the difficulty he went through to complete his kit. I have built this kit and it finishes nice but is not a fall together kit. He details some of the problem areas and how to address them. The end result is quite nice.

Derek Griffiths article is next and will cover, over several issues, how he accomplished his award winning UN diorama. This part details the build of the 1/72 RAF Westland Whirlwind. There is a ton off aftermarket and scratch building and the detail is outstanding. I can't wait to see part 2.

The next article is the editors build of Revell's 1/48 Me410 converted back to an Me-210. The conversion centers on the wing differences between the Me-210 and the Me-410 and then shortening the nacelles by 5mm each side. This is followed by another excellent Aviation in Profile feature on the Me-210.

The remainder of the articles are:

  • Ben Bailey covering the Armstrong Whitworth Argosy including kits and real pictures
  • Karl Robinson building Roden's 1/144 Douglas C-124 Globemaster II
  • Dean Large builds Arii's 1/144 SR-71

On top of all that, there is the usual round up of new releases, announcements and modeling news. Some great stuff.

Thanks to Scale Aircraft Modelling and IPMS/USA for the opportunity to review this issue.
