Eduard has initiated a new line of masks that are rather unique in that they provide masking for the outside and inside of the canopy. While this is not a new solution it is the first time that pre-cut masks have been available. If you are like me you mask the outside and paint the inside color so that it shines through and call it a day. The drawback of this method is that while the correct color it is shiny.

In the past canopies have been rather thick and as such caused distortion so that if you masked from the inside it might not be perfectly aligned with the outside and vise versa. Modern kit canopies are significantly thinner than previous kits. So that opens up the possibilities of masking the inside.

The Eduard ProfiPack Bf-109G kits have masks inside the kit. I've used them quite effectively. They fit perfect and have sufficient tackiness to stay attached, but they only cover the outside of the canopy. The masks are made out of Kabuki tape which is the norm for the Eduard masks. Inside of the packaging are two sets of masks on one sheet, inside and outside.

The inside masks allow you to mask off the inside framework which is not available on the Eduard traditional masks.

The masks are designed not only for the canopy, but also for the head armor plates including the pressurized G-5 type head armor and the wingtip lights. You will have to use liquid masking fluid on the Erla canopy mask set. The hardest part of this set is that there is no framing on the inside to align the masks like the outside. It is important to make sure that the interior framing doesn't overhang the outside framing. This would cause the interior color showing around the framing.

The Kabuki tape is easy to put on and take off. It doesn't peal up. Simple effective and easy. The only change will be that you'll have to paint the inside of the canopy and remove the masks prior to adding it to the model. The inside of the canopy will now be flat and perfectly painted.

I used the both sets on my latest Eduard model and they worked perfectly. The look is exactly what you'd want from a masking set plus the addition of a flat color on the canopy inside. I'll be using these a whole lot more.

I like this approach and think it will add a new level of realism to my models. These sets are not expensive so adding them is a great way to make your models better. The classic canopy set does need you to cut the two masks slightly to get that internal framework but that is a very minor issue. Both the classic canopy and the Erla canopy sets are well worth the price of admission.

Highly recommended
