The Kit Build series from Kagero focuses on model builds of a specific type of aircraft and gives several examples. In this case, the focus is the F4U Corsair. There are three builds covered and they are:

  1. Tamiya 1/72nd scale by Richard Kovalcik, Birdcage Corsair
  2. Tamiya 1/72nd scale by Marcin Ciepierski, Early Corsair
  3. Tamiya 1/48th scale F4U-4 by Karoly Bera

The books are written with the English language version in the left column and the right column in Polish. The book includes 64 pages and each build is about 20 pages. Also included at the end are four color profiles of the Corsair and a book sized poster of the Corsair for framing.

Looking at the builds, the book is very instructional in detailing how aftermarket was used, The painting and especially the weathering were done as well as some scratch building. Focusing at Mr. Kovalcik's Birdcage Corsair, he starts explaining the use of Eduard sets in the cockpit as well as adding some wiring on his own. All of this has copious amounts of pictures included and the results are wonderful. The detailing continues with the engine, main gear bays and especially the landing gear legs.

And then, its time for painting and this is where these Build books shine. Over half of the content focuses on painting techniques showing the undercoating, weathering, chipping and more weathering. AMMO products were used in some cases. To conclude the build are four pages of excellent close up photos of the finished product. It is beautiful in all its dirty glory.

The other two builds are also done the same way and covered in depth. This is another excellent book about an iconic plane with three terrific builds and should serve as inspiration for modelers to move to the next level. Definitely recommended.

My thanks to Kagero, Casemate Publishers and IPMS/USA for the opportunity to review this book.
