This was the first time I have had a chance to read/review one of MMP's "Single" series books. The idea behind these books (more like booklets) seems to be to get right to the point and show scale plan views, photos, profiles, etc. This volume covers the Polish WW2-era fighter PZL P.11a, predecessor to the more numerous PZL P.11c.

Upon opening the narrow, softcover book, one is immediately presented with several pages of scale plans (in 1/72 and 1/48). No introductory history or anything like that, just right into the plans. This is followed by about 6 pages of photos from the pilot's manual. The text is practically non-existent here as well, but there are loads of numbered items in each of the photos that correspond to descriptions at the bottom of the photo. Some fantastic cockpit detail is to be found here, as well as explanations of various 'bits' on the fuselage and wings. After this are about 8 pages of wartime photos, with surprisingly detailed captions accompanying each. To wrap things up, there are 4 pages of color profiles, including a full-page color view of the instrument panel, as well as side and top/bottom views of one specific airframe.

This is, by design, a very succinct, almost abrupt book to look through. But there is still a lot of useful information to a modeler within these pages. It is certainly much more of a dedicated airframe reference and much less of a historical treatise. You will have to look elsewhere to find any history of the PZL fighter, but if you want to find some detail plans or photos, this is you one-stop shop. Worth adding to your library, especially if that library is light on reference material for Polish fighters!

Thanks to Mushroom Model Publications for the review copy, and to IPMS for allowing me to review it!
